Privacy Policy
BookMyLove is a dating app for people looking for a life partner. To do that safely we need some personal information. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us, how long we keep it and the choices you have. It covers the BookMyLove app and this website.
Last updated 7 November 2026. BookMyLove is run by BookMyLove (“we”, “us”).
The short version
- Your profile is only shown to people who scan your QR code in the country you’re in, and to people you ask to connect with — and when a man scans a woman, he sees nothing until she says yes.
- Your phone number and email are never shown to other users. Chats and calls happen inside the app.
- We store the country your phone is in, not your exact location. A place name is added to your scans only if you allow location, and you can switch place names off.
- We never sell your personal information or use it for advertising inside the app.
- You can delete your account at any time from the app or from bookmylove.com/delete-account.
What we collect in the app
Your account. Your mobile number or email address, a password (stored only as a secure hash), your full name, and whether your number or email has been confirmed. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name, your email address and the basic profile details they share with sign-in (for Google, a link to your profile picture).
Your profile. First name, gender, date of birth (others see your age, which you can hide), home country, city, bio, interests, photos and videos, who you’d like to meet, what you’re looking for (marriage, or a relationship that leads to it), the date you confirmed you’re here for a real relationship, and your settings (for example whether you show your age or accept video calls). Who you’d like to meet can reveal your sexual orientation: it is never shown on your profile, and we use it only to decide whose requests reach you.
Verification. If you take the live selfie, we send the three photos to Amazon Web Services, which checks that each shows one face following the prompt, that all three are the same person, and how closely they match your main photo. This uses your face, so you are asked to agree before you start. We don’t store the selfie photos unless a person on our safety team needs to look at them; then they are deleted as soon as that review is done. We don’t create or keep a face template. We keep the result, the reason if it failed, and the scores (how closely the faces matched, and the head position, smile, eyes and image quality measured in each photo).
Photo and video checks. Every photo and video you upload is checked automatically for nudity and sexual content, violence, self-harm and hate symbols before anyone else can see it. A photo is sent to Amazon Web Services as it is. For a video, our website’s server (run by Netlify) takes up to 24 still frames from across it, and those are sent to Amazon Web Services; the frames aren’t kept. Before a photo or video leaves your phone, the app takes out where it was made and your phone’s other notes in the file (such as its make and model). The sound in a video isn’t checked automatically. Borderline photos and videos, and any the automatic check can’t read, are checked by a person. We keep the result of each check, including what the automatic check detected. A rejected file moves to a private store that only our safety team can open. It is kept for 90 days after it was rejected, in case you ask us to look again, and then deleted, unless it is part of a report or we must preserve it (see “How long we keep it”). A photo or video you take off your profile is deleted, with the result of its check, within a day.
Where you are. The country your phone is in, and when it was last updated, from your phone’s location when you open the app and when you scan a code — or, if you don’t allow location, the country you tell us when you scan. The law of that country decides who you can connect with, and your own code only works there. Your phone works out the country — and the place name — by sending its location to Apple’s (iPhone) or Google’s (Android) maps service. If you allow location, each scan also records the name of the place and its town or city (for example “Marigold Beans Café, Saket”, New Delhi). This is on unless you switch off “Add the place to my scans” in Privacy & security; you can also edit the place before sending a request. We never receive your exact coordinates.
Using BookMyLove. The codes you scan and who scanned yours (with the country, and the place if saved, of each scan), connection requests, their notes and answers, your messages, call history (who called whom, audio or video, when and for how long — we don’t record calls), blocks and reports you make or receive, notifications, and when you last used the app.
Events. The city you choose for events; the events you say you’re going to or join the waitlist for (with your gender at the time, as events keep seats for women and for men), your door pass; when you were checked in at an event and how: by our staff, or by you at the venue, when the app works out on your phone how far you are from the venue’s pin and sends us only that distance (we keep it in whole metres), never where you are; and the cities you ask us to tell you about when they have no events yet. After an event you were checked in at, if you choose to be shown to the other guests there (“Second chance”), we record that choice.
Buzz. If you post on Buzz: the photo or video, when you posted it, and the town or city and country your phone was in, worked out on your phone as for scans (never the place name or your coordinates). Your posts carry a random tag, shown with some of its letters hidden; it isn’t taken from your name or your QR code. We also keep the reactions you give, the posts you report (with the reason and any note) and whose posts you chose to hide. Buzz photos and videos are checked like those on profiles before anyone else sees them.
Safe Date. If you plan a safe date: who you’re meeting (one of your connections) and both your first names, when, the place if you type one, your friend’s first name if you give it, your phone’s time zone, and when you checked in, asked for help or said you were home. Your friend’s link shows them only that. When you tap “I need help”, the app offers your phone’s emergency number and to send a friend where you are; that message goes from your phone, and BookMyLove never receives your location. The rescue call is set on your phone only.
Book a Date. The dates you propose and are proposed in your chats: the place you typed or chose, the day and time, your phone’s time zone, the budget if you chose one, who proposed it, the answer (yes, no or a suggested change) and any cancellation. Only the two of you see them; our team doesn’t, and nobody at the place is told anything.
Safety. Messages and request notes are checked for abuse and hook-up talk before they are delivered. If one is stopped, we keep it so our moderators can review it and, for abuse, count it towards a ban. When we text you a sign-in code we log the number, its country, the provider used and whether it was delivered and used, to stop fraud. If we ban an account, we keep a scrambled copy (a salted hash) of its mobile number and email address, not the number or address itself, so they can’t be used to join BookMyLove again.
Purchases. Which pass or horoscope analysis you bought, when, the price (also converted to US dollars), currency, country, store and store transaction number, and whether it was refunded. Payments are made with Apple or Google; we never see your card or bank details.
Horoscope analysis. If you order or agree to share a full analysis by Horoscope by Act of Stars, your time and place of birth (and your date of birth) for that report, and any note the buyer adds. Your birth time and place are also kept on your profile so you don’t have to type them again; you can add, change or clear them in Edit profile, and they are never shown to other users. The free sign match only uses your sign, which you can switch off.
Your device. A push-notification token (if you allow notifications), and technical logs that our hosting provider keeps for security, including your IP address and the kind of device or app making each request. Your sign-in session is stored on your phone. If you turn on App lock (Privacy & security), your phone checks your fingerprint, face or phone PIN itself and only tells the app whether it worked: your biometric data never leaves your phone, and BookMyLove never sees it. Whether App lock is on is stored on your phone only, and is cleared when you log out.
What we collect on this website
- If you join the waitlist: your email address, the city you tell us (so we can tell you when BookMyLove opens there), your time zone, the language of the page you joined on, and how you found us: the page you came from, the page you landed on and any campaign tags in the link (for example which ad you clicked). We use your email address and city to send you an email when BookMyLove opens, and keep a scrambled copy (a hash) of your address to make sure nobody gets it twice.
- If you unsubscribe from our emails: your email address, so we don’t email you again.
- How you found us: the ad, link or website that brought you here and the page you first opened.
- Ad measurement, only if you accept cookies on our homepage: Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google tags then tell them that you visited our homepage and whether you joined the waitlist, so we can see which of our ads work. They use cookies to do this. Nothing loads until you accept, and you can change your choice with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of the homepage. These tags never load on the page a scanned BookMyLove code opens, or on our legal and account-deletion pages.
- The pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address.
- Our hosting provider works out which country you’re in from your IP address, so the homepage opens in your country’s language and shows prices in your currency. We don’t keep it.
- Two cookies on our homepage remember languages:
bml_menuholds the languages offered in your country, for the language menu (for 30 days), andbml_langthe language you pick from that menu, so the homepage opens in it next time (for a year). They hold nothing else, and only our website reads them. - What you send us with the account-deletion form.
Why we use it
- To run BookMyLove: your account, your QR code, scanning, requests, chat and calls, events, Buzz, Safe Date, Book a Date, passes and analyses you buy.
- To keep people safe: the women-first rules, checking photos and messages, live-selfie verification, handling reports, banning people who break our rules, and preventing fraud and spam.
- To follow the law: including the laws of the country you’re in about who can connect, India’s IT Rules, and requests from courts and police.
- To talk to you: notifications (you can switch off those for requests, messages and calls), and messages about your account, purchases, travel, the horoscope and our rules; and, if you joined the waitlist, an email when BookMyLove opens, with a link to unsubscribe.
- To improve BookMyLove: counts and trends, such as how many scans lead to a chat. We use totals for this, not your messages.
We use your information because you give your consent when you sign up and when you choose optional features (allowing location, which also adds place names unless you switch them off; the live selfie; the horoscope analysis; Second chance; posting on Buzz; Safe Date), and because some processing is required by law. You can withdraw consent for an optional feature in the app at any time; withdrawing consent to everything means deleting your account. Joining the waitlist is your consent to the email telling you BookMyLove is open; unsubscribing withdraws it.
Who can see what
- People you meet: your profile (first name, age unless you hide it, gender, city, bio, interests, approved photos and videos, what you’re looking for, verified badge, and whether you accept video calls). Someone who scans your code sees it straight away if they don’t need your approval, or once you approve their request; anyone you send a request to sees it so they can decide.
- The person you’re chatting with: your messages, your call history with them, where you met if a place name was saved, and your star sign in the free horoscope match unless you hide it.
- Other guests at an event: for a day after an event you were checked in at, your profile, only if you choose to be shown and only to guests who chose the same (“Second chance”).
- Anyone you send a Safe Date link to: the first names of you and the person you’re meeting, when and the place if you typed one, and whether you’ve checked in, asked for help or got home. Never photos, profiles or where you are. The link stops working two days after the plan ends.
- Everyone using Buzz: what you post there, with your masked tag, its town or city and country and how long ago you posted it, for 24 hours. Never your name, profile or code, and nobody can message you from a post. You’re never told who reacted to, reported or hid your posts, and they’re never told it was you.
- The owner of a code you scan: if their code doesn’t work where you are, they are told which country it was scanned in, but not who scanned it.
- Never shown to other users: your phone number, email, full name, date of birth, birth time and place, who you’d like to meet, your live selfie, and reports.
- Our team: a small number of staff can see account details to answer support requests, review reports, photos and selfies, and enforce our rules. They can read a chat only when one of the two people reports the other from it, and then only the messages sent before the report; every time they open one, it is logged. The actions they take on accounts, such as suspending, verifying, approving or removing photos and deleting accounts, are logged. On Buzz they can see who made a post, so our rules and bans apply to it.
Who helps us run BookMyLove
These companies process personal information for us, under contracts that only let them use it to provide their service:
- Supabase — our database, sign-in, file storage and servers.
- Amazon Web Services (Rekognition) — the automatic checks of photos and live selfies; it receives the photos and selfie photos being checked.
- Agora — carries voice and video calls between phones; it receives the call’s sound and video and your IP address, but not your name or account details.
- MSG91 — sends sign-in codes by text message to Indian numbers and receives your number and the code; Resend sends sign-in codes and password emails, and the email telling the waitlist that BookMyLove is open; it receives your email address and, for that email, the city you gave us.
- Apple and Google — sign-in with Apple or Google, payments, push notifications, and turning your phone’s location into a country and place name; RevenueCat confirms store purchases and receives your BookMyLove account number and your purchase records; Expo delivers push notifications and receives your push token and each notification’s text, which can include a person’s name, the start of a message, a request note or a place name.
- Horoscope by Act of Stars — writes the analysis you order. Once the analysis is paid for, it sees the full names and genders of the two people, the birth details shared for the report and the buyer’s note, but not the price or how you paid. If the order is declined or cancelled, the birth details and note are deleted from it.
- Sentry — receives a report when the app crashes or hits an error, with names, phone numbers, emails, messages, photos, QR codes and locations removed first; the reports are stored in the European Union.
- Netlify — hosts this website and stores the waitlist, unsubscribe requests and account-deletion requests, and takes the still frames from new videos for the automatic check (it doesn’t keep them); Meta and Google receive the website ad-measurement data described above.
We share information with police, courts or government bodies only when the law requires it or when we believe it is needed to protect someone from serious harm — for example, child sexual exploitation, which we report as our Child Safety Standards describe.
Our main servers are in India (Mumbai). Some of these companies may process information in other countries; when they do, it stays protected by our contracts with them.
How long we keep it
- While your account is open: what you need for the app to work.
- When you delete your account: your profile (name, bio, interests, city, birth time and place, who you’d like to meet, what you’re looking for, your settings and verification result), where your phone is, photos, videos, selfie images, push token and code are removed straight away, and requests waiting for an answer are cancelled. Photos and videos that were rejected, are still waiting to be checked, or are part of a report are kept privately as evidence instead, as described below. We keep your sign-in details, date of birth, gender, home country, chats, connection, scan and call history, reports, safety and verification records and purchase records for 180 days, as India’s IT Rules, 2021 require, and then erase them. An analysis by Horoscope by Act of Stars that was already delivered stays available to the other person until then. If you signed in with Apple on an iPhone, we also ask Apple to remove BookMyLove’s access to your Apple ID. A banned account, or one we must preserve, can’t be deleted from the app; write to us.
- Longer, only where the law requires: for example tax records of purchases, or information we must preserve for a police investigation or a child-safety report. While we preserve an account or a file, nobody can delete it (not you, not our team, and not the 180-day erasure) until the need ends. A child-safety report preserves the reported account straight away. Anything a reported person had uploaded is kept in our private evidence store until their account is erased.
- Banned accounts: the scrambled copies of the mobile number and email address are kept for as long as the ban stands, even after the account is deleted and erased. They are removed if the ban is lifted.
- Safe dates: deleted a week after they end (when you say you’re home, cancel, or 12 hours after the start).
- Buzz posts: shown for 24 hours. The photo or video is then deleted within a day, and the post’s record (when and where it was posted, its reactions and reports) 30 days after that. A post refused by the checks or removed by our team is kept privately as evidence, like a rejected profile photo. If you delete your account, your posts stop showing at once.
- Live-selfie photos: not stored, or deleted after the review. Rejected photos and videos: 90 days after they were rejected, unless they are part of a report or preserved. Photos and videos you take off your profile: deleted within a day. Sign-in text-message logs: 90 days. Waitlist details: until we’ve told you BookMyLove is open in your city, and no more than 12 months after that; the record that we emailed you, and your unsubscribe request if you made one, are deleted with them.
Your choices and rights
- See and correct your profile in the app (Profile → Edit profile). Your gender, date of birth and home country are locked after sign-up; write to us if they’re wrong.
- Delete your account in the app (Profile → Privacy & security → Delete account) or at bookmylove.com/delete-account.
- Switch off place names on scans, notifications for requests, messages and calls, your age, your sign and video calls in the app’s settings, and location in your phone’s settings (you’ll be asked for your country when you scan).
- Unsubscribe from waitlist emails with the link at the bottom of the email, or at bookmylove.com/unsubscribe.
- Download a copy of your information yourself, in the app: Profile → Privacy & security → Download my data. You get a file with your account, profile and settings, your verification result, links to your own photos and videos (they work for 15 minutes), your code, connections and requests, the messages you sent, your scans, calls, purchases, your own birth details in horoscope orders and the reports you filed. Other people appear only by first name. Messages you received aren’t included, because they are the other person’s words; you can still read them in the app. You can download once every 24 hours, and we keep a record of when you did (the time only).
- Ask us for anything the download doesn’t include, to correct or erase your information, or to nominate someone to act for you, by writing to support@bookmylove.com. We reply within 30 days.
- Complain to our Grievance Officer (below). In India you can also complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Only for adults
BookMyLove is strictly for people aged 18 or over. We check dates of birth at sign-up, and we close any account we find belongs to someone under 18. If you believe a child is using BookMyLove, report it in the app or write to childsafety@bookmylove.com.
How we protect it
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Every request is checked by our database’s access rules, so users can only ever read what this policy says they can. Staff access is limited, and the actions staff take are logged. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
